The Odd Sockery is based in Clunes, Victoria.
The Odd Sockery was born as a partnership between Janine Wilson and Leanne Wills, both lovers of fibre since childhood, and the importing of an Antique Gearheart Circular Sock Machine Circa 1904 from an American Museum. Since then, more and varied Australian hand-crank sock machines have made their way to Clunes and been brought back into good service, so that their clicks and whirs may once again turn Australian merino into footwarmers that last.
These socks have a story to tell, with a significant historical connection to textile manufacturing in Clunes. The Interknit Woollen Mills operated in Clunes from 1939 until 1985 and was reknowned for the manufacturing of socks during the war years and beyond.
The Odd Sockery have now revived this part of Clunes local history, together with that same Interknit Factory, who are now located in Ballarat.
